Estrella, why do you like exploring the sea?
Since I was a kid, I’ve found my happy place in the ocean. I could spend hours exploring the rock pools of the waters of Fuerteventura for marine life, and now, nothing has changed. I have the same feeling every time I enter the sea. You never know what the ocean will share with you, and every day is a different experience.
What is your favorite underwater animal?
This is a tough question, but I have to go for sea turtles. It amazes me how they have been roaming our oceans for more than 100 million years and how much they have perfected their life cycle for survival (until now, that humans are threatening their existence).
How does being surrounded by the underwater world make you feel?
When I am at the ocean, time stops, and the mind relaxes. I become a guest and an observer to a completely different world. I find peace and meaning.

Marija, why do you like exploring the sea?
I have always been a very curious person. Growing up in nature made me establish a strong connection with animals and plants. As a kid, I would watch documentaries about our planet and spend hours thinking about animals. Whether these animals are fishes or tigers, I am simply in love with nature, and the Maldives gave me an incredible opportunity to discover the mesmerizing beauty of the underwater world. It feels like the documentaries I used to watch are turning into reality!
What is your favorite underwater animal?
It’s hard to answer, but I would say dolphins because of their intelligence. When I look at photos of their brains, I am astonished.
How does being surrounded by the underwater world make you feel?
It makes me feel like I’m swimming inside space. It calms me and makes me feel relaxed, like some kind of meditation.
